Ransomes - Must remain as a sports club

It’s been great getting out and speaking to people in Rushmere Ward, Ipswich over the last few weeks. One subject that has been raised by a number of people on the doorstep is: what is the council planning to do with Ransomes Sports Club? There have been a number of incorrect rumours circulating and I can understand why people may be concerned.

Some people seem more interested in making Ransomes part of a political football game than working with the club and the council to keep Ransomes as one of the premier sports clubs in the county.

I can state categorically that we want to see the Sports Club stay on the site; to flourish, with more members, a variety of sports played and to become a hub of local community involvement.

I have watched a number of sports at Ransomes, from seeing a young Liam Trotter play for Ransomes Youth FC before going onto play for Ipswich Town, to being present at the club the last time Suffolk won the County Cricket Minor Championships.

I remember as many of you will that it was a Labour-run council that saved the club when Ransomes sold the land. We still want to see Ransomes exist as a sports club.
We have no intention of closing the club and turning it into a housing estate.

I am committed to working with the council and the Sports Club to make sure Ransomes remains the premier sports club in Ipswich. I would like to see both bowls and Suffolk Minor County Cricket return to Sidegate Avenue. The football club is flourishing but I want to see all sports to be continued to be played at Ransomes and not just football.

As your local councillor, a local resident and a sports fan, I will do all I can to help the club grow and be a home for the whole community.

North East Ipswich Forum - 16th November

The North East Ipswich Forum will be held next week, the 16th November. The forum is normally held in the evening but this is our annual daytime forum.

The event starts at 11am on the 16th and the location is the Ransomes Sports and Social Club in Sidegate Avenue.

Topics up for discussion include the Suffolk County Council budget and we will also get an update on police priorities for North East Ipswich.

I will be attending the forum and hope some of you can join us on Thursday morning.

Have Your Say- North East Ipswich Forum - Tuesday December 7th

There is an opportunity this Tuesday for Rushmere residents to question councillors, council officer's and the local police.
The North East Ipswich Forum is being held in Rushmere this month at the Ransomes Sports Club in Sidegate Avenue. The Forum will start at 11am.

Agenda items include, 'The Big Society'. winter gritting and local police priorities.

There will be time for a cup of tea and a chance to chat with local councillors and other residents.

Back delivering!

Less than a month since the election and it was back on the streets of Rushmere delivering a leaflet. This time I could put down Councillor rather than just campaigner!

Two leaflets went out, the first on the proposed housing development on the site of the old Bristo's Garage on Woodbridge Road. 14 Town houses are planned for this site, I had submitted concerns from the residents of Khartoum Road, Brunswick Road and Stuart Close in December and this helped lead to the planning application being withdrawn in January. The new application has addressed many of the residents earlier concerns.

The second leaflet gave residents information about my meeting with the local Police Inspector for North East Ipswich, the meeting was to discuss a number of matters including the concerns of residents from one street who have become the target for a group of youngsters who have been acting in a very anti social way.

A reminder to all residents of Rushmere Ward, that you have an opportunity to discuss issues that concern us all at the next North East Forum, you will be able to speak to the local police, Councillor's and other agencies. the meeting takes place on the 5th June at 7pm, the location: Ransomes Social Club in Sidegate Avenue

You may even get a chance too see some cricket, if you come to the forum meeting!
